Pensil 10.3 Mass Loaded Transmission Line full-range speakers using Markaudio Alpair 10.3 drivers. 3/4 MDF glued and screwed construction, well-braced. They have an incredible amount air, detail, and are immediate. They go very low and have excellent dispersion. Bass response is tunable by adjusting the amount of Poly-fil in the cabinet. Size is 43″H x 9.5″W x 14D, weight is 52lbs. They have been broken in with low-level music for 250hrs and another 25hrs at moderate levels. This listing is for a single JBL model D208, 8 full-range driver/speaker/loudspeaker unit, as found in some versions of Hartsfield and other models. It has a cast aluminum frame, alnico magnet, and un-doped paper-edged cone bearing the numbers: 208-310, and 5.5 as shown. It appears to be an earlier version due to the style of the frame spokes which do not have the flat section where they meet the frame at the magnet end. Each center rib continues for the entire length of each individual spoke. Further, the terminals are mounted on a small piece of phenolic, and the label is a decal on the side of the magnet cover. It does not appear to have ever had the later-style oval rear magnet badge. The cone surround has at least one very minute split/flex line as indicated by arrow in the photos. At rest, it is very closed and difficult to see, but with a small amount of downward pressure evenly applied, it widens slightly. As this is a +/-60-year-old electronic device, no guarantee is being made as to its operating condition or specifications. It should be presumed that it could be in need of restorative or repair work to perform as intended. A tonality that is compatible to the G5 hemp formulations. This tonality starts and’stops fast. Very fast impulse response, transient capabilities, detail, presence,’believability’, and 3D presentation.. Even the core of the motor structure has been machined out, to allow a packing of fiber glass to absorb any sound reflected behind the cone/cap area! . The devil is in the details, and this one is possessed. If you want to hear the instrument and/or the amp, THIS is the speaker to go with.. This is the new “guitar version” with the molded in dust cap removed, and a Celestion acoustically transparent/open weave dust cap used to let out just the right amount of midrange and top end directly out of the coil/core area..
