Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History, a Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railroad Lantern with a Signal Red Lantern Globe. The frame is an Adlake Kero and is embossed on the shoulder in large letters DM&IRRY. The frame is in excellent condition; lots of original tin, nice clean metal, stands straight and has no bent, broken or missing parts. There are some minor dents to the top and bottom of the frame. It has a manufacture date of 2-57, indicating the lantern was made during the Second Quarter of 1957. As with all Adlake Kero’s manufactured from the mid-fifties on, there is a factory drain hole in the bottom. It comes with an Adlake 400 fount and burner (takes a 7/8 wick). Fount & burner appear to be fully functional; wick easily adjusts up and down, should hold fuel and burn if desired, but has not been tested. The Signal Red Lantern Globe is cast with a “K” in a circle, indicating it was made by Kopp Glass. The Lantern Globe is in excellent condition, free of scratches, cloudiness, chips, and cracks. There may be the usual small rim nicks from use on the railroad which will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame. The predecessor of the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range was the Duluth Missabe & Northern which existed from 1893 to 1937. The DM&IR existed from 1937 until 2001 and was controlled by United States Steel.
