The amp is 1 ohm stable for maximum compatibility and power output, and features both low-pass and subsonic high-pass filters to finely tune your subwoofer. In defining this standard, CEA tests and rates the performance of amplifiers designed for use in mobile (vehicle) applications. This statement found on the CEA website continues to define the types of amplifiers that they will test. Hempopotamus products have expanded into the hi-fi realm with a couple new 8 models… This particular model is a great example of how good a 200 dollar pair of speakers can actually sound.. Utilizing a centrally mounted/time aligned dome tweeter inside of the motor assembly, there is absolutely NO time lag from mis-aligned/incorrect distance relationship of the woofer and tweeter as compared to the listener. Frequencies from the woofer and tweeter arrive at the listeners ears at exactly the same time, and that critical 300-3,000 Hz human voice range becomes smooth and seamless.. Specially tooled components in the magnetic structure can accommodate all components aside from the woofer, so it looks as if there is only a single driver reproducing the entire spectrum. A large open weave/acoustically transparent dust cap allows just the right amount of high end to propagate from the woofers center. Stereo imaging is greatly enhanced and enlarged, due to the high dispersion angles provided by this design. All components are of the highest quality. Just a single loudspeaker weighs almost 5 pounds! The woofer has a rather large ferrite magnetic assembly, which drives a large diameter 2 voice coil with an ALUMINUM former. This is radially vented and CCAW wire wound. With a respectable 92dB sensitivity, she can dig down to 25 Hz and features a real rubber half roll high compliance surround. This dampens any remaining cone edge resonance issues. Cone composition is a hard, re-pressed hemp fiber, which has an unbeatable natural presentation… Bass becomes accurate, smooth, meaty, and 3 dimensional. Mid-bass is CRITICAL not to sound muddy, and it now fabricates a sound stage that’s amazing, and that rolls right up into the high end, which is handed off to the centrally time aligned tweeter.. And- speaking of, the tweeter , this unit is a high power low resonance NEODYMIUM unit, so that it’s compact, yet potent….. With the minimalist approach in the crossover, to keep anything out of the signal, the tweeter HAS to be durable. A simple 6dB/ octave network is all that is needed to crossover the tweeters frequencies. The XO point is several times above the Fs of the tweeters moving mass, so there isn’t any harsh ringing or break up. The nice thing is that even after hours of talk radio, you won’t get “listener’s fatigue”…. Fellas’, for a speaker under the 100 mark(each), she’s quite a show-off. Impedance is switchable: 4 Ohms or 16 Ohms. The JF50S is engineered for exceptional performance in the nearfield from a compact enclosure. Left and right side drivers are magnetically shielded for use on either side of video monitors. Very effective as a fill/delay element in larger overall systems or for foreground/background music reproduction. A & E SPECIFICATIONS. The two-way full range loudspeaker systems shall incorporate 2x 5.25-in LF transducers and a 1-in soft dome tweeter HF transducer. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE LAST PAIR! First designed in 2007 as an optional Lowther replacement that upgrades to a field coil format. Ideal for horn loading above 80hz and can be used in a front loading cabinet with rear horn and or transmission line. Usable response of 50 to 20k depending on loading. The cone and extender cone use a proprietary pulp that is composed of various length fiber from banana, coconut, and pineapple fibers. The fibers of the pulp are spun to allow the best distribution within the cone and provide stiffness where most needed and minimize resonant peaks. This overcomes most of the problems of full range speakers which need low mass for good transients, yet maintain stiffness for extended response and low distortion. A special small center cone mechanically couples direct to the voice coil at 6k and extends response to beyond 20k to give lifelike highs. To reduce mass and allow greater high frequency distribution, a center deflector is used instead of the traditional dust cap. Made of aluminum, it also acts as a heat wick to reduce the operating temperature of both the voice and field coil. It also allows a wider distribution of sound above 10k. The development of the 8 inch speaker took several years as a new approach was desired to upgrade and improve what has been an audio staple for many years. Going back to a field coil allows the speaker to have the equivalent of a much larger permanent magnet. The advantages of large magnets in giving high flux in the gap are well known. A special copper shunt ring is also used to lower distortion and smooth impedance. A major issue that is addressed is the matching of the speaker to the amp. To minimize instability, a very smooth impedance curve has been obtained in the 50 to 20k bandwidth that varies between 6 and 22 ohms. The resonant peak is at 100 hz and the impedance slowly rises with frequency to around 24 ohms at 20k. It also minimizes the effect of the interconnect speaker cables. The use of Zobel filters should not be needed and is not recommended. This speaker is not recommended for high level listening applications such as large home theater rooms or to play rock music at concert levels. Ultra low mass is achieved giving outstanding transients and a unique musical quality that has to be heard to be appreciated. This listing is for a closely matched pair of prototype T-7 8FR.
