WW2 Rare Model MK VI British SOE, SAS, Long Range Desert Recon Group. The compass was used by the S. E, the SAS and the Long Range Desert Recon Group during WW2. The compass has wire lugs for a wrist strap and is blacked in colour and has no markings which is correct for model MK VI wrist worn compasses as not to aid or assist the enemy. The compass does not work but is still a very rare collectible. The compass has surface scratches, a small patch of what appears to a drip of set varnish and wear all of which are entirely commensurate with its age and in particular its use. The compass approximately measures 4.5 cm in diameter. My pictures are not to scale please see my pictures as these form my description also please see my other listings. Long Range Desert Group WW2 Allied Cap Badge SAS North Africa Darkened. PLEASE JUDGE THE CAP BADGE FOR YOURSELF. PLEASE REFER TO THE IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM CATALOGUE NUMBER INS 43109 FOR AN EXAMPLE OF THIS BADGE. This scorpion design cap badge was made for the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), an Allied Special Forces raiding and reconnaissance unit, who operated from 1940 to 1945. These brass badges (along with some ultra-rare silver badges) were often theatre made, commissioned work by local jewellers. Judging by the quality of the definition and detailing of this badge, it is most likely a piece made by a Cairo jeweller in Egypt, North Africa. These badges were apparently only worn for a brief time in 1940, when the LRDG were stationed alongside the SAS in North Africa , fighting against the Axis powers- Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy in particular, hence the reason that I have listed the country of manufacture as Egypt. The badge appears to be made of brass , with some worn out patina suggestive of darkening presumably for added camouflage effect during operations. Please refer to the photos to make your own judgement, I believe the darkening is visible just below the letters R D and G on the face of the badge, with possible staining to the reverse from whichever dye/paint was applied. This darkening suggests authenticity and usage. However, it was obtained from a reputable source , a well-established militaria dealer who prides themselves on their reputation and has never let me down in terms of authentic militaria. The detailing and patina both strongly suggest that this is genuine, as does the rarity of badges of this quality- most modern reproductions are fairly obviously not genuine when compared to this cap badge, and the fakes that I have seen are not even approaching the quality (and patina) of this badge. Please fully read this description and extensively study all the photos before making up your mind on purchasing this cap badge. ALSO, PLEASE NOTE, I DO NOT CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT IN CAP BADGES, IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE BADGE IS GENUINE! This badge measures approximately 35mm in diameter. I HAVE REDUCED THE PRICE AND REVISED THE LISTING BASED ON ADVICE THAT THE OUTER RIM IS RAISED, THEREFORE IS A RESRIKE OR REPRODUCTION. PLEASE DECIDE FOR YOURSELF WHETHER OR NOT THIS BADGE IS ORIGINAL, AS THERE IS SOME DEBATE AS TO THE VARIANTS THAT EXIST WITH OR WITHOUT THE RAISED OUTER RIM , THANK YOU. THE DESCRIPTION AND THE FACTUAL INFORMATION IS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, ACCURATE AND HONEST. I HAVE OVER 2,300 POSITIVE FEEDBACKS. The item “L. R. D. G.
