The second iteration of the Telecaster Bass, first seen in 1972 and discontinued in 1979, features a Seth Lover-designed Wide Range humbucker in the neck position, dishing out particularly thick subwoofer heft. With the tonewood pairing of a solid ash body and one-piece maple neck, this classic combination yields the midrange complexity and punch of ash and the articulate note attack of maple. Simple, straightforward, and effective, this Telecaster Bass is strung with higher tension flatwound 45-105 strings, with the greater resonance and sustain afforded the string through body construction. The bass weighs 9lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a. Deep U profile carve with full shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring. 880 deep at the 1st fret and. 990 at the 12th. There’s a touch of flame figuring extending along the bass side of the profile, and the gloss is silky smooth and free of wear save for a couple small finish chips on the bass-side shoulder at the 6th fret. Riginal medium jumbo frets have their full factory height and show virtually no wear with well-rounded crowns, presumably a result of being strung with flatwounds for the majority of the instrument’s life. The bass plays easily in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is a full 34″, and the nut measures 1 5/8″ in width. On the headstock, the original chrome clover button tuning machines turn smoothly with clean plating, and the original Telecaster Bass logo is flawless on the headstock face. The Blonde gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, highlighting the broad grain of the ash body. Cosmetic wear is limited to s. Ome minor dings and scuffs on the parameter of the slab body and some light finish scratches and shallow marks on the back as well. Overall this instrument is extremely well-kept and lightly played. We have for sale a vintage untested tube tester. This came from an avid ham radio operator estate. This is out of his shop. We try to be absolutely honest in everything we sell and represent. I can tell you that this has not been tested. I did plug it in and the red pilot light does come on. Thats as much as I can tell you. Here is the facts that I can give you on this unit. The probe wires that come with this are in rough condition. The outer casing of the wire is cracked and one end is missing. That will need to be repaired or replaced. The cord to plug it in appears to be in very good vintage condition. As stated, when I do plug it in, the red pilot light comes on like it should. All of the knobs appear to be there. It looks to be clean and whoever used it looks like they did take care of it. Some of the nameplates do you show wear. As far as the case, I did notice the latches are missing a couple of screws, but still function properly. The handle is nice and secure and the lid closes just like it should. With the lid shut, this case measures approximately 14 x 13 x 6. On the bottom, the rubber feet are still intact just like they should be. It does have four holes drilled in the bottom of the case. Not sure what those were for. I went ahead and took out the small screws that hold the unit into the wood case to see what was rattling. Two things I found. A machine screw nut and a strip of wood that must be used for support somehow. It measures 8-7/8 x 1/2 x 3/8. I will include both those pieces. I went ahead and reinstalled all the screws and put it back together and lo and behold it still has a rattle to it. Not sure, I just want to make sure youre aware of it. I believe this unit is way too nice to just part out. This would make a really nice restoration project for somebody. Maybe it works just as it is and you can use that way.
