This Mid-Century Modern, Eames-era Red Freestanding Cone Fireplace is a Montgomery Wards Pacesetter circa 1970 and is extremely rare. It is in the style of Preway and Malm. With a bright red conical shape and glowing logs, this Retro Vintage fireplace is perfect for an apartment or home looking for that iconic fireplace! The fireplace is 39.5″ High; 30″ wide x 30″ deep and vented with 8″ diameter welded seam steel collar. Seel cone, porcelain enameled. Concave base for easy ash removal. May need (2) 23-in. Lengths of 8-in smoke pipe reach 8-ft. Ceiling, with reducer; one-piece firescreen. All of the surfaces of the cone shaped body and the stovepipe are coated in Cherry Red high gloss, fired-on porcelain enamel. The finish on the fireplace is in good condition. The firebox floor has a thick layer of refractory cement that protects the metal below (needs replacing) and it has a heat shield in the back of the firebox to protect the main body, which may need replacing. Many people are finding the new vent-free gas or gel ethanol fuel logs sets to be very attractive because they don’t require connection to a chimney so you can save on installation cost but still have a “real fire” look and feel. These fireplaces can be used with wood, gas, gel or electric log sets. Converting this fireplace into a wood burning stove is not recommended. The removable spark screen has some surface rust, which could be wire-brushed. The back does have chipping along the seam. These rare awesome beautiful fireplaces are tough and easy to care for once they are installed. History: Preway was one of the top quality makers of freestanding fireplaces and they made them heavy duty for wood burning but they were also designed with a port in the firebox floor to install a gas line through so you can use a gas log. This is a gorgeously restored UL Listed Fisher Grandma Bear III, used very lightly over the years. The stove has 3 coats of Thermalux High Heat Satin Black paint on it, including the bottom, and all of the trim work is done in Thermalux High Heat Metallic Gold, with three coats of that as well. I have a twin to this one in my house that keeps every inch of 1,640 square feet warm on the coldest nights. If you use them properly, these things hold fire all night long, so no need for kindling and fire making in the morning. I brushed and vacuumed the inside of the stove out and replaced all side and back firebrick. The brick in the bottom are sound and not ready to be replaced yet. This is one of the few Fishers I’ve ever seen with this style of fancy feet. It really adds to the curb appeal. Made in the USA. Shadrach Portable Rocket Stove. My journey of building rocket stoves began two years ago. I started with designing and building a large stove for my own use in emergency situations, like a power outage at supper time. I had many suggestions for a stove that was portable. So in the end I ended up with this stove I named Shadrach. The stove features heavy all steel construction with 2400 degree insulation around the base. It breaks down into four pieces that all fit inside a 50cal ammo can. The stove is designed to burn any biomass and to direct the heat generated to a pan that sits on the top. A specially designed funnel shape on top allows even heating, the use of different sizes of pots and pans, and if a wire/mesh was used you could directly cook on it. After many weeks of testing and design I have come up with a stove that burns very little wood and achieves 1000 degrees in the burn chamber. In testing I had no problems bringing an 8 inch cast iron pan filled half full of oil to 400 degrees. The insulated base raises the temperature in the burn chamber to re-burn the gasses, direct more heat to cooking surface, and eliminate any smoke. The stove only produces any visable smoke when first lite or if a new piece of fuel is added. Perfect for any outdoorsman, camper, fisherman, hunter, prepper, or even those in an Urban area needing a portable stove using fuel found just about anywhere. The Shadrach rocket stove should last a life time with it’s heavy construction of 3/16 wall burn chamber. Cool down for storage takes around 20 minutes. This stove is designed for outdoor use only and should be set up on a solid surface. I would say that a 10 inch pan is the largest size you would want to use safely.
