Up for sale, a 1979 Fender Telecaster Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. 100% original save for a medium jumbo refret, this Tele features an alder body and custom color Antigua gloss finish. Both a real looker and an exquisite-sounding instrument, this Fender offers a clear, balanced range of tonalities. The guitar balances well on a strap and weighs 8lbs 12oz. We’ve dialed in this Tele here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-52 roundwound strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a. Substantial and inviting U-shaped neck profile carve with generous shoulders and full baseball bat heft, measuring. 920 deep at the 1st fret and. 975 at the 12th. The gloss-finished maple fretboard has been professionally refretted with medium jumbo fretwire which has ample meat and crown, showing no wear and playing cleanly in every register. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The scale length is a full 25 1/2″, and the nut measures 1 5/8″ in width. The headstock sports the original Fender “F” tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, and both original pickups are intact, with original CTS pots that date to the 1st week of’79 and stock blue molded tone caps. All of the original hardware is present, including the Fender stamped chrome six-saddle bridge and “ashtray” bridge cover, and plastic parts include the black Strat-style knobs and of course the very cool Tele Custom three-ply pickguard. The guard is finished in Antigua to match the body, exhibiting natural pick wear just to the treble side of the bridge, with strum wear also extending across the Wide Range humbucker cover. Cosmetically, this is an honestly played yet well-kept instrument. The custom color Antigua finish shows only light yellowing of the clear coat, adding further saturation to the green-to-white burst, and there is tight horizontal finish checking extending across the body. Cosmetic wear includes l. Ight buckle rash at the treble-side waist on the back, a few additional scuffs and marks on the back, and some small finish chips on the body parameter exposing the white base coat beneath the Antigua. The neck profile is. Smooth and clean, with natural palm wear through the gloss on the fretboard edges and just a couple microscopic marks, with one small filled chip on the bass side shoulder behind fret 7, imperceptible to the palm. The original hardshell case is included. The case retains its original handle and functional latches, with clean black leather ends and the raised Fender logo intact on the exterior.
