A rare opportunity to own one of the premier revolutionary appliances from the 1950s! For sale is a GE Deluxe Stratoliner J-402 electric range in a rare pink color. All original parts are included: griddle, electric meat thermometer, 2 oven grates, broiler pan, owners manual which includes recipes, schematics at back of unit. It became the focal point in the kitchen, admired by our guests and great fun to use! Generally only on summer weekends! We accessorized other appliances and kitchen gadgets in the kitchen to match the pink! Since then, we have rebuilt, and are ready to part with our old friend for another to enjoy! The Stratoliner was considered to be a top-of-the-line appliance when it was introduced in the mid-1950s to an eager post-WW2 market desiring new and innovative products. The back-control panel was designed to mimic an automobile dashboard, so the push button Tel-a-Cook lights display a different color to show the level of burner heat. By contrast, the oven switch is rotary to select Broil, Bake, Time Bake and Off positions with a separate control to set the oven temperature from 150 to 550 degrees. The meat thermometer dial shows the internal temperature of the meat in the oven (we did not use so cannot guarantee accuracy). Also included is a fluorescent lamp (switch) to illuminate the cooktop and work surface and combination oven and minute timer for automatic time back on and off (we never used this feature so cannot guarantee that it works properly). There are 4 burners, 3 of which are called calrod surface units: Left rear 2050-watt 8 inch unit, right rear 1600-watt extra high speed 6 inch unit, right front 2600-watt unit, and left front automatic 6 inch unit that is temperature controlled via thermostat. The oven is 21 inches, larger than most at the time. Grates are original, but the coil was replaced requiring our local hardware store to search for the correct unit! We found that occasionally we had to jiggle the unit to make the connection, so it would be advisable to have the back connector looked at and rewiredour plan was to do so. The oven worked, but sometimes not without the jiggle adjustment! There are 3 big, roomy storage drawers. The lower left drawer stores the automatic griddle; lower right the rack for the electric meat thermometer. The pink porcelain is in good shape with some scratches at the corners, which were generally not visible with the cabinets on each side of the unit. The enamel in the oven is in good shape, as are the interior of the drawers. (Please look closely at the pictures).
