We have owned this stove for over 50 years my wife’s father was in the Marine salvage business. After WWII he cut up Liberty ships for scrap on Shooters Island, between New Jersey and Staten Island just south of the Bayonne bridge. In 1962 he had half dozen Tracey coal boats (steel barges) these transported coal from the coal railroad car dumpers in New Jersey, to factories and power plants around New Jersey, New York harbor, and upstate. Each of these barges had a barge captain and a small cabin equipped with a coal stove for heat and cooking. That’s where our shipmate stove came from my father-in law scraped the boats but kept the port holes and stoves. Around 1970 me and my wife were building a cabin upstate NY. We took one of the stoves up for cooking and heat my wife even learned to use the oven our original slow cooker.
