This offering is for an antique 19th century circa 1880 Man’s Silk Top Hat. The hat was made by Dunlop & Co. The hat size measures app. 21.5 in inside circumference making it a hat size of about a 6 3/4. The brim measures between 1.5″ and 2″ wide and the height to the crown is app. 6 The condition is outstanding with very very minor wear to the surface and having no dents, no rips, no tears and no repairs. There are a couple of very minor rubs in the silk but nothing serious. The only notable flaw is that the strip that covered the ends of the leather sweat band is gone as seen in our photo’s. The sweat band is still very firmly attached and the wearing of the hat is not effected in any way. The hat is clean and odor free, ready to be worn right out of the box. An antique Buck’s Junior 2 cast iron stove, very heavy. Mostly complete and missing some of the factory pieces, also one of the circular burner covers was replaced with a plastic piece. Normal wear and patina to cast iron, one rear leg is loose although the stove will stand with it in place. This most elaborate four column cast iron stove is attributed to “James Wager Troy NY 1840-43″. The Albany Institute of Art has a large collection of these Ornate parlor stoves that were made in the Albany area. Tammis Groft former curator at the Albany Institute in her book called “Cast with Style” pictures many elaborate examples, & one most similar to this one by Wager. Stove bodies usually mirrored the taste of the period in furnishings and architecture. The metal-plate sides, fronts and tops of the simplest boxes of the 1830’s are stamped with neoclassic motifs of the Empire style. Some parlor stoves made in that decade for wealthy clients reflect the rage in that time for Greek Revival architecture. Whether placed in a period interior, or as a focal point of a room, this cast iron stove will be a treat to look at.
